Walbridge served as construction manager on Wayne State University’s Mazurek Medical Education Commons, which was the nation’s largest single-campus medical school at the time. The $25.7 million project included construction of a three-story building with a new public face and image for both the Medical School and Shiffman Medical Library; as well as an enclosed pedestrian bridge that connects the two structures over Brush Street in Detroit’s Midtown. In addition to the new construction, Walbridge also carried out renovation work at the Medical Library.

With its convenient location for students, faculty, health professionals, and guests, the Mazurek Medical Education Commons provides access to different spaces around campus. It features state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories and provides access to the latest patient simulation technology – an educational opportunity that wasn’t available prior to construction of the commons.

In June 2013, the Mazurek Medical Education Commons achieved LEED® Silver certification through the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Program.
