Walbridge provided a range of pre-construction services in preparation for this research center and worked with a team of 128 automotive specialists, industry leaders and users to identify test features for long-term consideration. Walbridge prepared a comprehensive architectural programming document that provided a detailed understanding of project goals, needs, facts and concepts.
Phase Two services included overall site master planning of the property and schematic design of the facilities and test services to be included in the staged development of the project. Walbridge led a team consisting of McKim & Creed, a nationally recognized civil engineering and planning organization, architect Tolson Associates and S&ME. The effort required significant coordination and participation with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Division of Water Quality, Land Management Group, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Walbridge also established the master program budget and phased schedule, and provided layout of utility and infrastructure, roadways, a 4.6-mile ride and handling course, 670-foot diameter vehicle dynamics area, maintenance facilities, operations center, client garages, and development entrance.
