Walbridge is providing construction services for the multi-year transformation of the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, Mich.

Plans for updating the campus, which originally opened in 1956, include program management and construction of new design studios, parking decks for various design groups, additional testing areas at the Advanced Energy Center, and rebuilding and renovating some of the existing R&D facilities.

The work will also include extensive office upgrades and is expected to continue through 2018.

National Historic Landmark

The center is considered one of the most important works of architect Eero Saarinen, especially demonstrating his prowess as a planner and designer of “total environments.” Saarinen went on to design notable suburban corporate campuses for IBM, Bell Laboratories, and John Deere.

The GM Global Technical Center was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000 and became a National Historic Landmark in 2014.
