When auto supplier Meridian Magnesium evacuated more than 150 people from its building only minutes before an explosion, it left smoldering devastation – right in the center of the facility.
Still smoldering, a call came to Walbridge leadership with an ask to deploy a team to the facility.
What came after encapsulates the Walbridge difference
- 25-minute mobilization
- Safety assessment
- Drone/laser scanning
- Retrieval of casting dies used at the facility
Our team was on-site with first responders and local officials – coordinating a safe way to enter the facility.
A day after the fire, our construction team was removing debris during the emergency response, ensuring building stability and safety while retrieving the casting dies that customers needed to continue automotive production across the globe.
Over its history, Walbridge has worked on many emergency response construction efforts and is diligent in providing for customers.
Our experienced teams understand how important having a plan is for emergencies, including tornado destruction, powerhouse explosions, fire response, and hurricanes.
The Walbridge difference shows in many ways, including:
- Proactive planning
- Field visual tools
- Culture of safety
- Risk assessments and action plans
In just 13 days, the Meridian plant was operational and in production again.
Within four months, our team completed a total rebuild of manufacturing space and roof rebuild at the facility – a testament to intelligent planning, excellent coordination and quick mobilization.
