Celebrating Walbridge’s Season of Giving

This holiday season, we’re thankful for all of you. Walbridge celebrated its Season of Giving this year by truly focusing on what means the most: supporting our neighbors, friends, coworkers and family members.

While the Holiday season in the past was a chance to send trinkets or gifts to friends and clients, we have always felt that the best gift is something with meaning, something that makes a difference.

That’s the goal of the Season of Giving, to improve our community. It could be by promoting engineering and innovation at a local high school, helping the homeless, making sure 400 children in rural Virginia wake up Christmas morning to an avalanche of gifts or so much more.

We can’t help but thank all of you. Your support in 2018 means the world to us and that continued support helped make a difference countless lives.

So read about our Season of Giving – and have a Happy Holidays.

A Continued Commitment

The Detroit Cristo Rey High School Kinematic Wolves FRC5577

We kicked off our Season of Giving by sponsoring and serving a breakfast Detroit Cristo Rey High School students.

Focusing on students from economically disadvantaged families, Cristo Rey offers college-preparatory coursework integrated with a work-study program. Walbridge is a proud 5-year work-study partner where students have worked with our teams in IT, marketing, estimating and administrative services.

Walbridge is supporting The Kinematic Wolves FRC5577 with both financial support and engineering/robotics mentoring. The FIRST Robotics program is an opportunity for students to mesh their imagination with engineering, marketing and innovation skills – laying the foundation of a successful future.

With about 35 members in the school, the team will begin in January 2019.

We will continue to follow the team’s success through the year on social media, highlighting their hard work and innovative spirit.

A Community Impact

This week, we helped teamed up with client Microsoft to make the holidays a little more special for 150 children in near Boydton, Virginia.

Walbridge, Microsoft and six subcontractors donated Legos, video games, Easy Bake Ovens, Barbie dolls and more through the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services 2018 Christmas Program.

Helping Those in Need

More than 40 bags of hats, gloves and gloves were donated to the Detroit Rescue Mission

Walbridge’s Project Controls Department worked to keep those in need warm this winter.

During their annual Warmth for Winter campaign they received bags and bags of coats, hats, gloves, scarves and mittens that were donated to the Detroit Rescue Mission.

This is the sixth year the department has done the campaign, this year receiving 40 bags of cold weather gear!

Giving A Smile

Walbridge’s Tampa team purchased gifts for families through the Children Cancer Center’s 2018 Holiday Adoption Donor Wish List.

Separately, the office donated money toward the Children’s Dream Fund – which works to fulfil the dreams of children ages 3-21 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

Meanwhile, Walbridge’s Southeast office hosted their office party at Goodwill Opportunity Campus, utilized Community Table Bistro, a culinary training division of Goodwill Industries of The Southern Piedmont. The Community Table Bistro provides hands-on job training for Goodwill clients while offering healthy, delicious, and homemade food and beverage options to visitors of the Goodwill Opportunity Campus.

The Walbridge Pittsburgh Office donated to several different groups including:

  • Dink Angel’s toy drive
  • Boy Scout fundraising and distribution of gifts to families in need
  • Pittsburgh Ironworkers Stuff-a-Bus for Children’s Hospital Leukemia patients
  • Cornerstone Angel Tree gift program for children in need
  • Community cookie basket baking and delivery

Walbridge Executive Director of Supplier Diversity Jackie Jackson along with members of the Council of Supplier Diversity Professionals, spent some time at Bow Elementary in Detroit during their “Read to a Child” day, where they read to children from pre-kindergarten to 3rd grade and delivered gift packages (including a book, treat and affirmation bookmark).

We share our warmest wishes for a holiday season filled with joy, and a New Year of peace and prosperity.
