Walbridge was the design-builder of an electric vehicle manufacturer’s first assembly plant made up of a body shop, paint shop, general assembly and central utility building in Arizona.
The assembly plant will be used to produce a new electric sedan.
As a design-build project, Walbridge led the construction of the plant, including drilled pier foundations, structural steel framing, insulated metal wall panels, TPO roofing system, building HVAC, sprinkler systems, chilled water system for process, electrical exterior substations, building power and lighting with bus duct distribution for process tie in and exterior air-cooled chillers with compressed air system piped from central utility plant.
An impactful Arizona project, the assembly plant had more than 4,316 pieces of prefabricated steel on the exciting facility.
Community Support
As the project marched toward completion, the team ran into a problem of global proportions: the COVID-19 pandemic.
Keeping safety as the No. 1 goal, the team’s adherence to Walbridge’s strict COVID guidelines supported getting the project done on schedule.
To support the local area and greater Arizona community, our team worked with subcontractors and the customer – while observing social health and safety restrictions, to host a blood drive in the project trailer.
